Many of our clients work in areas where they are regularly exposed to events considered outside of the experience of a "normal" life. For example, in the course of their everyday lives, our clients may witness armed conflicts or other aggression, extreme suffering, or incidents such as kidnappings, bombings, road traffic accidents and fatalities.
While less than 8 per cent of people suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of what they experience, it is entirely normal for most of us to react to abnormal events in some way. The important thing to determine at a very early stage, i.e. within 3 days of the incident, is HOW affected we are, and risk assess what follow-up support is necessary. Post-traumatic illness can’t be prevented; but it can be successfully managed if identified at an early stage.
The TRiM strategy aims to risk assess the needs of those who have been involved in a traumatic event and, working with Human Resources and Occupational Health workers, determine what follow-up practical support is required, i.e. active management by seniors, mentoring by peers, or referral for more formalised help as required.
Centurion’s advisors are all TRiM practitioners / risk assessors, who can be called upon by our clients to assist in the immediate aftermath of a traumatic incident, to offer trained assistance to managers in the role of supportive peer group interaction. The TRiM system of trauma risk assessment removes the stigma associated with psychological distress.
Centurion’s TRiM service is available as a post-incident peer group risk assessment debrief for management, or as a presentation within a bespoke HEFAT® training course.
