Eastern Africa, west of Kenya.
Uganda shares a threat of terrorism with neighbouring countries. Kampala is a relatively safe city. Opportunistic crime does occur, however. We strongly recommend that you avoid going out by foot after dark. Consult the Embassy before travelling. Local militia groups, weapons (various), vehicle security, personal security, bandits / corruption, gunfire, road legal / illegal checkpoints, armed robberies, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters. Do not travel after dark. Do not take any photos of anything military.
Use bottled water only.
Mostly plateau with rim of mountains.
Tropical; generally rainy with two dry seasons (December to February, June to August); semi-arid in north-east.

Draining of wetlands for agricultural use; deforestation; overgrazing; soil erosion; water hyacinth infestation in Lake Victoria; poaching is widespread.
The main hazard is other road users. Driving standards are low, vehicles are poorly maintained and the accident rate is high. You should not drive after dark except in major cities. Always keep doors locked and windows up.
