Northern Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Algeria and Libya.
You should be aware of the threat of terrorism in Tunisia. There is little violent crime, but watch out for pickpockets and bag-snatchers. Weapons (various), vehicle security, personal security, bandits / corruption, gunfire, armed robberies, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters. Do not take photos of military places.
Local water is safe to drink.
Mountains in north; hot, dry central plain; semi-arid south merges into the Sahara.
Temperate in north with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers; desert in south.
Bacterial diarrhoea, hepatitis A, polio, rabies, typhoid, yellow fever; vector borne diseases may be a significant risk in some locations during the transmission season (typically April to November).

Toxic and hazardous waste disposal is ineffective and poses health risks; water pollution from raw sewage; limited natural fresh water resources; deforestation; overgrazing; soil erosion; desertification.
Driving in Tunisia can be erratic and sometimes dangerous. Little lane discipline and fast driving, even in towns, are a hazard. Roads are of a reasonable standard, although potholes can appear quickly following heavy rain.
