Location

Caribbean, islands between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Venezuela.

Problems
There is a threat of terrorism in Trinidad and Tobago. Theft can be a problem in parts of downtown Port of Spain and in other urban areas. This also involves armed robbery. There was a spate of kidnappings between 2002 and 2005. Vehicle security, personal security, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, cultures / customs, communications.
Water
Use bottled water.
Terrain
Mostly plains with some hills and low mountains.
Climate
Tropical; rainy season (June to December).
Natural Hazards
Outside usual path of hurricanes and other tropical storms.
Health Issues
Dengue haemorrhage fever, hepatitis A, HIV/AIDS, polio, rabies, typhoid, yellow fever.

Environmental Issues
Water pollution from agricultural chemicals, industrial wastes, and raw sewage; oil pollution of beaches; deforestation; soil erosion.
Road Safety
The standard of driving is poor. Road accidents leading to fatalities are a regular occurrence. Roads are narrow and winding, road surfaces are of low standard. Always use a reputable taxi after dark.
