Location
South-eastern Asia, north-west of Australia in the Lesser Sunda Islands at the eastern end of the Indonesian archipelago; note - East Timor includes the eastern half of the island of Timor, the Oecussi (Ambeno) region on the north-west portion of the island of Timor, and the islands of Pulau Atauro and Pulau Jaco.
Advice is against all but essential travel. Politically motivated violence, which could escalate without notice. Avoid demonstrations, large crowds, and areas around government buildings. Militia groups, weapons (various), vehicle security, personal security, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters.
Use bottled water only.

Tropical; hot, humid; distinct rainy and dry seasons.
Floods and landslides are common; earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, hurricanes.
Avian influenza, cholera, dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis, malaria, rabies, tuberculosis. No dental / optical services.
Widespread use of slash and burn agriculture has led to deforestation and soil erosion.
Take extra care when wet. Travel in convoy whenever possible. Main routes often single mountain track. Road quality is poor even in Dili.
