Local water is safe to drink.
Mostly mountains (Alps in south, Jura in north-west) with a central plateau of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes.

Air pollution from vehicle emissions and open-air burning; acid rain; water pollution from increased use of agricultural fertilisers; loss of biodiversity.
All road users should follow instructions given by local police and officials on main alpine routes, at bottlenecks and areas of heavy traffic congestion. Alpine winters often make driving difficult. Equip your car for winter driving and carry snow chains.
