Location

South-western Europe, bordering the Bay of Biscay, Mediterranean Sea, North Atlantic Ocean, and Pyrenees Mountains, south-west of France.

Problems
Street crime can be a problem in tourist areas and large cities. Vehicle security, personal security, bandits, gunfire, illegal checkpoints, armed robberies, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, terrorism, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters.
Water
Safe to drink.
Terrain
Large, flat to dissected plateau surrounded by rugged hills; Pyrenees in north.
Climate
Temperate; clear, hot summers in interior, more moderate and cloudy along coast; cloudy, cold winters in interior, partly cloudy and cool along coast.
Natural Hazards
Periodic droughts.

Environmental Issues
Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea from raw sewage and effluents from the offshore production of oil and gas; water quality and quantity nationwide; air pollution; deforestation; desertification.
Road Safety
The standard of driving is generally good but aggressive. Be aware that you are required to wear a high-visibility best whilst awaiting roadside vehicle repair. If you do not a heavy fine may be imposed.
