Location

Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, north-east of Madagascar.

Problems
Crime is low. Vehicle security, personal security, general travel, navigation, off road driving, hot weather injuries, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures / customs, communications
Water
Safe to drink.
Terrain
Mahe Group is granitic, narrow coastal strip, rocky, hilly; others are coral, flat, elevated reefs.
Climate
Tropical marine; humid; cooler season during south-east monsoon (late May to September); warmer season during north-west monsoon (March to May).
Natural Hazards
Lies outside the cyclone belt, so severe storms are rare; short droughts possible.

Hepatitis A, polio, rabies, typhoid, yellow fever.

Environmental Issues
Water supply depends on catchments to collect rainwater.
Road Safety
Mahe is mountainous and roads are narrow and winding, often with sheer drops and hairpin bends. Safety barriers are rare - take care driving and avoid more remote areas. When returning hire vehicles, obtain an acknowledgement that the vehicle has not been returned damaged during the hire period.
