Location

South-eastern Europe, bordering the Adriatic Sea, between Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Weapons (assorted), vehicle security, personal security, kidnappings, legal / illegal checkpoints, armed robberies, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures / customs, communications, civil disturbances / unrest, mines & booby traps, helicopter safety, health & hygiene, abduction / hostage taking.
Water
Safe in capital, major cities, use bottled water everywhere else.
Terrain
Extremely varied; to the north, rich fertile plains; to the east, limestone ranges and basins; to the south-east, ancient mountains and hills; to the south-west, extremely high shoreline with no islands off the coast.
Climate
In the north, continental climate (cold winters and hot, humid summers with well distributed rainfall); central portion, continental and Mediterranean climate; to the south, Adriatic climate along the coast, hot, dry summers and autumns and relatively cold winters with heavy snowfall inland.
Natural Hazards
Serbia lies in a seismically active zone. Earth tremors are common. Earthquakes.
Health Issues
Avian influenza, hepatitis A, polio, rabies, typhoid.
Environmental Issues
Pollution of coastal waters from sewage outlets, especially in tourist-related areas such as Kotor; air pollution around Belgrade and other industrial cities; water pollution from industrial wastes dumped into the Sava which flows into the Danube.
Road Safety
The general standard of roads is fair to poor with conditions worsening in rural areas. Driving can be erratic and roads overcrowded. Drive defensively and avoid confrontation with other drivers.
