Location

Middle East, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Egypt and Israel.

Problems
We advise against all but essential travel to the Palestinian Territories. You should maintain a high level of vigilance as the threat of terrorism is very high. Frequent demonstrations have the potential to turn violent. Vehicle security, personal security, gunfire, checkpoints, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, terrorism, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters.
Terrain
Mostly rugged dissected upland, some vegetation in west, but barren in east. Flat to rolling, sand- and dune-covered coastal plain.
Climate
Temperate; temperature and precipitation vary with altitude, warm to hot summers, cool to mild winters.
Natural Hazards
Droughts.
Health Issues
Avian influenza, hepatitis A, polio, typhoid.
Environmental Issues
Desertification; salination of fresh water; sewage treatment; water-borne disease; soil degradation; depletion and contamination of underground water resources.
Road Safety
Driving is erratic and there are frequent accidents. Fines for speeding are high. If travelling into the desert, go with others and take adequate water and supplies.
