Location

Northern Europe, bordering the North Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, west of Sweden.

Problems
General travel, navigation, off road driving - snow and ice driving, cold weather injuries, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters.
Water
Safe to drink.
Terrain
Glaciated; mostly high plateaus and rugged mountains broken by fertile valleys; small, scattered plains; coastline deeply indented by fjords; arctic tundra in north.
Climate
Temperate along coast, modified by North Atlantic Current; colder interior with increased precipitation and colder summers; rainy year-round on west coast.
Natural Hazards
Rockslides, avalanches.
Health Issues
Hepatitis A, polio. Rabies is present on the island of Salvbard. Dental and medical fees are very costly.

Environmental Issues
Water pollution; acid rain damaging forests and adversely affecting lakes, threatening fish stocks; air pollution from vehicle emissions.
Road Safety
Distances are great and driving takes longer than you think. Narrow and winding roads may be hazardous, and impassable, especially in winter. Winter tyres are mandatory from November to April.
