Southern Asia, between China and India.

Problems
Be aware of the threat from terrorism throughout Nepal. Demonstrations can occur. Visitors are considered to be 'polluted'. Do not trek on your own without a professional guide. Register with your Embassy on arrival. Personal security, general travel, navigation, trekking, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, weather conditions, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures / customs, communications, civil disturbances / unrest.
Water
Use bottled water only or sterilise water.
Terrain
Tarai or flat river plain of the Ganges in south, central hill region, rugged Himalayas in north.
Climate
Varies from cool summers and severe winters in north to sub-tropical summers and mild winters in south.
Natural Hazards
Severe thunderstorms, flooding, landslides, drought, and famine depending on the timing, intensity, and duration of the summer monsoons.
Health Issues
Avian influenza, cholera, hepatitis A & B, high altitude sickness, Japanese encephalitis, malaria, meningitis,
polio, typhoid, yellow fever.

Environmental Issues
Deforestation (overuse of wood for fuel and lack of alternatives); contaminated water (with human and animal wastes, agricultural runoff, and industrial effluents); wildlife conservation; vehicular emissions.
Road Safety
Travel in Nepal generally carries risks. Remotely detonated bombs have been laid in some areas. Maoists have been known to attack public transport. Driving standards are poor and badly regulated. Road conditions are poor and difficult, even at the best of times. Avoid travelling on buses overnight.
