There is a high threat from terrorism. Violent crime is not a major problem in Morocco, but it is growing. Occasional incidents involving theft at knifepoint occur in major cities and on beaches. Many hustlers on arrival in country, who can be aggressive and most persistent. Best to stay away from the kif (hashish) areas of the Rif mountains and the drug centre, Ketama. Vehicle security, personal security, general travel, navigation, off road driving, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, drugs, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters.
Safe to drink in hotels, capital but use bottled water in rural areas. Good local bottled water available.
Northern coast and interior are mountainous with large areas of bordering plateaus, intermontane valleys, and rich coastal plains.
Mediterranean, becoming more extreme in the interior.
Northern mountains geologically unstable and subject to earthquakes; periodic droughts.
Bacterial diarrhoea, bilharzia, dengue fever, hepatitis A, polio, typhoid, vector-borne diseases may be a significant risk in some locations during the transmission season (typically April to November).

Land degradation / desertification (soil erosion resulting from farming of marginal areas, overgrazing, destruction of vegetation); water supplies contaminated by raw sewage; siltation of reservoirs; oil pollution of coastal waters.
Morocco has a poor road safety record. Accidents are frequent. If you are involved in an accident resulting in the fatality of a Moroccan, authorities will consider you responsible, and you may be detained pending trial.
