Southern Africa, an enclave of South Africa.

Problems
Muggings,often targeting foreign nationals, frequently at knifepoint. Do not walk alone in isolated areas. Local militia groups, weapons (various), ballistics danger areas, vehicle security, personal security, ambushes, kidnappings, bandits/corruption, gunfire, legal/illegal checkpoints, armed robberies, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building/office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, helicopter safety, sanitation/sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures/customs, communications, emergency shelters. Do not take photos of the palace, police buildings, government offices or anything military.
Water
Use bottled water.
Terrain
Mostly highland with plateaus, hills, and mountains.
Climate
Temperate; cool to cold, dry winters; hot, wet summers.
Natural Hazards
Periodic droughts.

Bilharzia, hepatitis A, HIV/AIDS, polio, rabies, typhoid, yellow fever.

Environmental Issues
Population pressure forcing settlement in marginal areas results in overgrazing, severe soil erosion, and soil exhaustion; desertification; Highlands Water Project controls, stores, and redirects water to South Africa.
Road Safety
Driving standards are low and you should drive carefully. Animals roaming on the roads are a hazard. When driving keep windows and doors locked, especially in Maseru.
