Location

Western Europe, occupying five-sixths of the island of Ireland in the North Atlantic Ocean, west of Great Britain.

Most visitors to Ireland enjoy a trouble-free stay. Take normal, sensible precautions to avoid personal attacks, bag snatching and pickpocketing. Vehicle security, personal security, general travel, emergency first aid.

Local water is safe to drink.

Mostly level to rolling interior plain surrounded by rugged hills and low mountains; sea cliffs on west coast.

Temperate maritime; modified by North Atlantic Current; mild winters, cool summers; consistently humid; overcast about half the time.

Water pollution, especially of lakes, from agricultural runoff.

Most roads in cities and towns are in excellent condition. Be aware of narrow high-hedged lanes in the countryside with blind bends.
