South-eastern Asia, archipelago between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

Problems
There remains a high threat of terrorism. Developments in Iraq and on the Middle East peace process affect Indonesia. Beware of street crime and take personal security measures. Weapons (assorted), vehicle security, personal security, checkpoints, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, diseases, drug problems, clothing & equipment,
emergency first aid, helicopter safety, cultures / customs, communications, civil disturbances / unrest, terrorism, drought / floods / natural disasters, jungle areas, water craft safety, corruption. Foreigners are regarded as wealthy people, be vigilant as even there is little crime, pickpockets are common.

Mostly coastal lowlands; larger islands have interior mountains.
Climate
Tropical; hot, humid; more moderate in highlands.
Natural Hazards
Occasional floods, severe droughts, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, forest fires.
Health Issues
Avian influenza, bacterial and protozoal diarrhoea, bilharzia, chikungunya, cholera, dengue fever, diphtheria, hepatitis A and E, malaria, polio, rabies, typhoid fever, yellow fever.

Environmental Issues
Deforestation; water pollution from industrial wastes, sewage; air pollution in urban areas; smoke and haze from forest fires.
Road Safety
Traffic discipline is poor and city streets are congested. If you break down or have a minor accident, you should stay with your vehicle with the car doors locked until the police arrive. Motorcyclists can be particularly dangerous.
