Northern Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Libya and the Gaza Strip, and the Red Sea north of Sudan, and includes the Asian Sinai Peninsula.
There is a high threat of terrorism in Egypt. Attacks can be indiscriminate and against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners. The crime rate is low but you should take sensisble precautions. General travel, navigation, off road driving, building / office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation/sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, terrorism, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters. Harassment for women travelling on their own. Women best to keep arms, legs and shoulders covered.
Use bottled water only - do not trust hotel supplies.

Periodic droughts; frequent earthquakes, flash floods, landslides; hot, driving windstorm called khamsin occurs in spring; dust storms, sandstorms.

Agricultural land being lost to urbanisation and windblown sands; increasing soil salination below Aswan High Dam; desertification; oil pollution threatening coral reefs, beaches, and marine habitats; other water pollution from agricultural pesticides, raw sewage, and industrial effluents; very limited natural fresh water resources away from the Nile which is the only perennial water source; rapid growth in population overstraining the Nile and natural resources.
Local driving conditions and poor vehicle maintenance make road travel outside the main cities hazardous. Pavement and pedestrian crossings are not always present, and drivers do not give right of way to pedestrians.
