Location

Western Africa, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Angola and Gabon.

Problems
Avoid travel to this area. Local militia groups, weapons (various), ballistics danger areas, mines, vehicle security, personal security, ambushes, kidnappings, bandits/corruption, gunfire, legal/illegal checkpoints, armed robberies, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building/office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation/sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, terrorism, cultures/customs, communications, emergency shelters. Do not photograph public buildings.
Water
Use bottled water only - local bottled water is good quality and safe to drink.
Terrain
Coastal plain, southern basin, central plateau, northern basin.
Climate
Tropical; rainy season (March to June); dry season (June to October); constantly high temperatures and humidity; particularly enervating climate astride the Equator.
Natural Hazards
Seasonal flooding.
Health Issues
Bacterial diarrhoea, bilharzia, cholera, Ebola fever, hepatitis A, HIV/AIDS, malaria, polio, river blindness, sleeping sickness, typhoid fever, yellow fever. Do not eat "bush meat".

Environmental Issues
Air pollution from vehicle emissions; water pollution from the dumping of raw sewage; tap water is not potable; deforestation.
Road Safety
Road conditions are generally poor and deteriorate during the wet season, which lasts from November to May. Overland travel off the main roads requires 4-wheel driver vehicles.
