Problems

Weapons (assorted), vehicle security, personal security, kidnappings, legal/illegal, checkpoints, armed robberies, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building/office security, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures/customs, communications, civil disturbances/unrest, mines & booby traps, helicopter safety, health & hygiene, abduction/hostage taking. Check the situation before travelling.
Water
Local water is safe to drink.
Terrain
Mountains and valleys.
Climate
Hot summers and cold winters; areas of high elevation have short, cool summers and long, severe winters; mild, rainy winters along coast.
Natural Hazards
Destructive earthquakes.
Health Issues
Avian influenza, hepatitis A, polio, rabies, typhoid.
Environmental Issues
Air pollution from metallurgical plants; sites for disposing of urban waste are limited; water shortages and destruction of infrastructure because of the 1992-95 civil strife; deforestation.
Road Safety
Traffic laws and regulations are similar to those in Western Europe. Stick to surfaced roads and do not stray off-road without an experienced local guide as there continues to be a widespread danger of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
Preparation and Training
Hostile Environments and Emergency First Aid Training (HEFAT®) (5 days)
Centurion's flagship Hostile Environments and Emergency First Aid Training (HEFAT®) course is for people who operate world wide, particularly in areas where there may be personal health or safety concerns. It is extremely effective for "frontline" organisations.
