Caribbean, island in the North Atlantic Ocean, north-east of Venezuela.

Problems
Local crime is on the increase against tourists. Do not visit local beaches at night. Personal security, general travel, navigation, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation / sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, drugs, cultures / customs, communications, emergency shelters.
Water
Use bottled water.
Terrain
Relatively flat; rises gently to central highland region.
Climate
Tropical; rainy season (June to October). Hurricane season is June to November.
Natural Hazards
Infrequent hurricanes; periodic landslides.
Health Issues
AIDS/HIV (high prevalence), dengue fever, hepatitis A, polio, typhoid, yellow fever.

Environmental Issues
Pollution of coastal waters from waste disposal by ships; soil erosion; illegal solid waste disposal threatens contamination of aquifers.
Road Safety
Drive on left. High incidence of road accidents. Many roads have large potholes, road surfaces lack grip and become slippery when wet.
