Location

Southern South America, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Chile and Uruguay.

Problems
Avoid poorly lit areas as there is an increase in crime. Beachwear is not suitable for towns. Vehicle security, personal security, corruption, gunfire, checkpoints, general travel, navigation, off road driving, building/office security, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation/sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, helicopter safety, cultures/customs, communications, emergency shelters.
Theft is rife in Buenos Aires. Express kidnapping.
Water
Use bottled water.
Terrain
Rich plains of the Pampas in northern half, flat to rolling plateau of Patagonia in south, rugged Andes along western border.
Climate
Mostly temperate; arid in south-east; sub-antarctic in south-west.
Natural Hazards
San Miguel de Tucuman and Mendoza areas in the Andes subject to earthquakes; pamperos are violent windstorms that can strike the pampas and north-east; heavy flooding.
Health Issues
Asthma, hepatitis A, intestinal parasites, malaria, polio, rabies, sinus and bronchial problems, aggravated by polluted atmosphere, typhoid.

Environmental Issues
Environmental problems (urban and rural) typical of an industrialising economy such as deforestation, soil degradation, desertification, air pollution, and water pollution.
Argentina is a world leader in setting voluntary greenhouse gas targets.
Road Safety
Be aware of pickpockets on local transport. Hail taxis, don't get into stationary lanes. Roads good but driving and road safety standards are not uniform.
