Location

Oceania, group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean, about half way between Hawaii and New Zealand.

Problems
Personal security, general travel, navigation, hot weather injuries, personal hygiene, sanitation/sterilisation, clothing & equipment, emergency first aid, cultures/customs, communications, emergency shelters. Do not interrupt evening prayer rituals. Some villages will not allow swimming or fishing on Sundays. Do not wear beachwear anywhere apart from the beach.
Terrain
Five volcanic islands with rugged peaks and limited coastal plains, two coral atolls.
Climate
Tropical marine, moderated by south-east trade winds; annual rainfall averages about 3 m; rainy season from November to April, dry season from May to October; little seasonal temperature variation.
Natural Hazards
Cyclone season from November to April.
Health Issues
Polio, typhoid, yellow fever. No entry to women six months pregnant or more.
Environmental Issues
Limited natural fresh water resources; the water division of the government has spent substantial funds in the past few years to improve water catchments and pipelines.
