Many of our clients work in areas where they are regularly exposed to events considered outside of the experience of a "normal" life. For example, in the course of their everyday lives, our clients may witness armed conflicts or other aggression, extreme suffering, or incidents such as kidnappings, bombings, road traffic accidents and fatalities.
While less than 8 per cent of people suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of what they experience, it is entirely normal for most of us to react to abnormal events in some way. The important thing to determine at a very early stage, i.e. within 3 days of the incident, is how affected we are, and risk assess what follow-up support is necessary. Post-traumatic illness can’t be prevented; but it can be successfully managed if identified at an early stage.
